Having formally studied Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, French, and of course, English, I agree when they say, "The more you study other languages the easier it is to learn them." I would be thrilled to support you in your life goals by improving both verbal and written language skills. Be it specific grammar issues, weekly English conversation classes, school work (social studies, ELA, science, university and college papers), composing and editing professional correspondences (any writing for that matter), or improving your resume, I can help you with all of it.
My name is Rebecca, and I'm an educator! I help people learn so it sticks and have fun while they're at it! I teach real life tools geared for the 21st century with enthusiasm and inspiration.
A little about me:
Language-educated: I have a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Alberta (2013), and I am half-way through a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Calgary (2022).
Worldly: I've lived and worked in Taiwan and Spain, and visited the Philippines multiple times over the years. I've had to try to understand and integrate into other cultures. I know what it is like to be a foreigner in a foreign country, learn the local language, and communicate with native speakers. I can speak day-to-day Mandarin Chinese fluently.
Flexible and diverse: No matter where you're from, what age you are, what level you're at, and what you need, I am confident I can help you. For my fellow Canadian native English speakers, the majority of help given is in the area of writing and grammar (professionally or academically), resumes, and school work.
Cultivated: I've taught English in private schools for 4.5 years. I have a high standard for my poor students, but in the end they (or their parents) thank me for it.
Experienced: I've been tutoring since 2003 now. I've tutored almost all elementary school subjects in English, though a lot of my tutoring has simply been English as a Second or Additional Language, basic Mandarin Chinese, Social Studies, ELA, and Science. Whether you're 7 or 57, learning can be wonderful.
Current: Given that I am halfway through a 2-Year Bachelor of Education After-Degree from the University of Calgary, I am seeing first-hand how education has changed and is still changing. I'm extremely happy to be seeing how positive, forward-thinking, and healthy the delivery of education is getting.
